Sir Richard Conrad IOUIE vat FRANK TILLET HESTER in a trade with two other Cubs, Joe Decker and Bill Hands, for lefty Dave La-Roche, was a little tight and not too effective in the early part of the battle with Asheville, but after the fourth inning he didn't even sniff trouble. In fact, he allowed only one hit after the Orioles scored a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings.

The hit was an infield single by second baseman Rob Andrews, and he was snuffed out on a double play. "I had troubie finding my rhythm," declared Maneely after stepping from the shower room. "About the fifth inning I got the ball down, it was sinking good." "I didn't like Maneely at first," said Orlando Manager Harry Warner. "He was up high. But he's capable, he did all right." "I think I got my rhythm back," said Maneely, who did his spring training with CLEVELAND DETROIT abrhbl abrhbl uamoie rt 4ita MAuiiffe lb 4011 on strikeouts, permitting five hits and walking two.

HIS BEST bat support came from center fielder Ed Palat, the cleanup guy who clubbed two doubles and a single, and from left fielder Tom Epperly who tripled and singled. The Orioles used three pitchers, but maybe they should've been substituting a ers instead. Terry Clapp clouted a two-run homer over the rightfield fence to give the visitors a 4-1 lead, but he was also docked with five passed balls, three in the seventh inning when the Twins undid a 4-4 knot and dashed to a 7-4 lead. "We're not going to be as nice next time we cone here," declared Asheville Manager Cal Ripkin. WWilms rf 10 12 Freehan 10 0 Dodgers 6, Braves 2 LOS ANGELES Von Joshua ripped a three-run homer to highlight a six-run seventh inning outburst as the four-hit pitching of Al Downing gave Los Angeles its third straight victory.

Restricted to one hit over the first six innings by the Braves' Gary Gentry, the Dodgers broke loose in the seventh. Bill Buckner singled and then scored on a double by Willie Davis which tied the game at 1-1. Gentry walked Willie Crawford intentionally but Joe Ferguson lined a single into left field which scored Davis and then Joshua homered into the right field seats, his first home run in major league baseball since 1970.
