Sale to boost Osceola sports PEGGY McLAUGHLIN Sentinel Star Staff Raising funds for a pay-as-you-go sports program at Osceola High School, in Kissimmee should be helped by a major fund drive this weekend, school athletic director Jay Markley said Tuesday. Markley told individual teams shortage of funds for sports forced him to drop any sport which cannot generate enough funds to support itself. "IT'S KIND of slow right now. I think next fall the project will pick up. It will have to.

I've told them they have to have the money a month before their season starts," Markley said. He wouldn't say how much has been raised so far. The weekend fund raising event is sponsored by the Kowboys Booster Club with new and used articles donated by Wayne's Furniture and Auction. The boosters will receive 50 per cent of the proceeds from the auction and sale of an estimated $10,000 in warehouse goods, including electric and building supplies, games, furniture and other items. THE SALE will be at the auction warehouse, 20 S.

Stewart from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Booster proceeds will go toward a $5,000 debt on weight lifting equipment bought for the school. All sports still stand a good chance of being continued next year, Markley said. "It'll probably be November before we run into the first one that might have a problem: wrestling," Markley said.

FOOTBALL AND girls volleyball are expected to easily generate their operating money through gate receipts. The same is expected for boys and girls basketball, he said. Under Markley's April 13 ruling, each sport must raise its own operating funds, either through gate receipts or fund raising projects, for the sport to be continued next year. To avoid discrimination, girls and boys teams have been paired. Either both or neither will be funded, he said.
