Graduated U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT in 1942. He was a member of the Destroyer Escort Sailors Assoc. (President Orlando Chapter); U.S. Coast Guard Academy Alumni National Retired Officers Timers Club of Orlando; Orange County Historical Society; Sabal Point Country Club; Seminole Golf Club.

He is survived by his wife, Trudy Whittington McGarity; step-children, Barbara Bryant Rumpff and her husband Cornelis, Lawrence Wade Hawley; sisters, Margaret M. Green (twin), Ethel M. Eastman, I Eleanor M. Luff. He touched so many lives and will be remembered with eternal affection, especially for the way he enjoyed teaching people and encouraging them to gain knowledge and tolearn how to appreciate the Basic things in life.
