There are no big-name politicians like former state Rep. Sam Bell or former Gov. Reubin Askew. Bell expressed interest in the job in December but never applied. Askew's name continues to pop up as a potential candidate.

The deadline for nominations and applications for the job was Jan. 31. By Friday, UCF had received 104 applications and 50 nominations for the job Trevor Colbourn will leave in August.

Another eight nominees have withdrawn. An applicant is a person who is actively seeking the post; a nominee is a person whose name has been placed into consideration by someone else. Nominees may not be interested in the position and may not know they have been nominated. UCF will not have a final list of hopefuls until Friday, after a search committee has contacted all the nominees to see if they are interested, said r'1A Koenig TSr folding bookcase Reg. $45 Ul Zinser sn nu ill L- Just browse through the world of Kraft Maid kitchens and experience the elegance of quality cabinets at prices to fit your budget.

Scott's committee, made up of alumni, faculty and community representatives, will review the candidates Feb. 22. "One thing is certain, though, we don't have to extend the deadline for applications.

We've got a good, qualified group of people who want to lead this university," Scott said. The list includes several UCF deans and vice presidents and a number of educators from Florida and across the country. A Navy statement said the 34-foot missile performed normally after it was launched at 10:02 p.m. from the submarine and sent its dummy warhead to an ocean target. The weapon has a range of 4,600 miles, but officials declined for security reasons to disclose how far the missile traveled.

The launch was to demonstrate the submarine's ability to safely handle, maintain and operate the weapons system. The firing was the 32nd such demonstration for the Trident 1. The sub carries 24 of the missiles while on patrol. TALLAHASSEE LOTTERY JACKPOT. In March 1988, Zinser resigned as president of Gallau- det University for the hearing impaired in Washington after 5 days on the job. The appointment of Zinser, whose hearing is normal, angered students whose demonstrations shut down the campus and brought an international call for improved civil rights for deaf people. Gallaudet students and faculty said the time had come for a deaf president at the 125-year-old school and stressed that Zinser's qualifications and abilities were never questioned. Zinser confirmed last week that she is interested in becoming UCFs first woman president.

Scott said his committee will meet Feb. 22 to receive a list of 30 finalists from state university system Chancellor Charles Reed. On Feb. 24, a committee formed by the Board of Regents will meet to pare those names down to 10. The finalists are scheduled to visit UCF sometime in March, and the president will be chosen by April 1, Scott said.
