He was a member of American Osteopathic Association, Florida Osteopathic Medical Association and American Bariatrics Association.

Pine Castle Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Orlando. BENJAMIN GLICK, 86, West Palm Beach, died Sunday, March 1. Mr. Glick was an owner of a wholesale grocery business. He moved from Longwood to West Palm Beach in 1997.

He was Jewish. He was a member of Free Sons of Israel and Hosea Lodge. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Jewish War Veterans Post 520. Survivors: wife, Estelle; Mary Jane Knisely loved trees and writing letters By Martin Comas OF THE SENTINEL STAFF When Mary Jane Knisely lost her eyesight a few years ago, it didn't stop her from writing hundreds of letters to government officials and others on the benefits of shade trees or the bane of taxes. The retired microbiologist for Orange County died Sunday of complications from a stroke.

She was 88. "She was very sharp and very intelligent and a compulsive correspondent," her son, Robert Q. Ireland, said. "I bought her stamps copiously." Each week, Knisely pecked out dozens of letters to congressmen, universities, newspapers and magazines from her manual typewriter. Many of her letters were published in The Orlando Sentinel.

A native of Eudora, Knisely survived the smallpox and flu epidemics of 1918, which killed her mother. After graduating from Kansas University in the 1930s with a degree in bacteriology, now called microbiology, she helped set up a medical laboratory at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. "This woman was way ahead of her time," Ireland said. After moving to Orlando in the 1950s, Knisely helped start the medical laboratory at Orange Memorial Hospital now known as Orlando Regional Medical Center and the Orange County Medical Clinic. Knisely retired in the early 1970s after more than 40 years as a microbiologist. Knisely also enjoyed studying genealogy. She traced her roots back to 1652, the year an ancestor immigrated from England. Knisely's small Orlando lot was home to dozens of large trees.

She called them her woods, and she frequently wrote letters to the Sentinel's editorial board spouting the benefits of shade trees. "She enjoyed the shade of a tree the rustling of the leav: es," her son said. "She always bragged her house didn't need air conditioning because of all the shade." She was a member of the Taxpayers Union, Citizens Against Government Waste, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Kansas University Alumni Association. Call 420-6077. FARLESS, PAULINE BUMBY Pauline Bumby Farless, a native Orlandoan, and member of two prominent pioneer families, died Sunday. She was 87. Born August 13, 1910 in Orlando, she was the daughter of Alfred W. Bumby and Mollie Willie Dolive (Bumby).

Her paternal grandfather was Joseph Bumby, founder of Bumby Hardware Co. (now Church treet Station's Bumby Arcade) which at one time operated four stores in Central Florida. He came to Orlando in 1873 from England and brought up a family of six sons and three daughters, the sons and their heirs carrying on the hardware business until 1966. On her maternal side, she was the granddaughter of Mr. W.L.

Dolive, who came here in 1887 from Alabama and joined his brother Silas in operating a citrus packing house in Downtown Orlando. He purchased an orange grove on Lake Lancaster and was one of the few men who did not leave after the Big Freeze of 1894-95 wiped out the citrus industry, but worked hard and brought his grove back into production. This area later was developed into the Bel Air residential properties. Mrs. Farless and her late husband, E.

Curtis Farless, were among the first to build a home here on "The as the family property was called. Mrs. Farless was a product of Orlando schools, graduating from old Orlando High School in 1927. She was graduated from Rollins College where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Her first husband, J.T.

Raper, died in 1949, after which she continued his business, Raper Dairies in South Orlando and Osceola County. She married Mr. Farless, an Orange County native in 1953. Mrs. Farless was one of the oldest members of the First Presbyterian Church and was an active member of Chapter AC of PEO.

She was a life member of the Rosalind Club, and Orange County Historical Society. Survivors are son, James A. Raper; daughter-in-law, Susan J. Raper; grandchildren, Erin Hedges of Tallahassee, James A. Jr.

of Norfolk, VA and Sam of Orlando. Funeral services will be held 2pm Thursday, March 12, 1998 at The First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, Reformation Chapel with Rev. Bill Duckworth officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Orlando. Pallbearers include James R.
