Thompson loved to play golf, not only because she was quite good at it, even in her later years, but also because it gave her a chance to socialize. "She was very outgoing and very popular. Golf was a way for her to get together with other people," her son, Douglas B. Clark, said. "She was a real dynamo." Thompson, a Winter Springs resident and retired furrier, died Monday of congestive heart failure.

She was continued playing golf until she was 88 years old, belonging to several country clubs in the area. With a handicap of 12, she also was a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association. Born in Russia, Thompson immigrated to the United States as a young girl with her parents and four siblings. At that time, her father was an attache1 for the Russian government, "and he saw the revolution coming and decided to get out," her son said. The family settled in Albany, N.Y., where Thompson's father bought an apartment complex with a restaurant and a bar, which he also managed.
