Miss Gabriel Speaks "Fear, Timidity, and Jealousy" was the topic of the lecture given by Miss Anne Gabriel before a group of mothers at the grammar school auditorium, Thursday morn. ing. "Fear stagnates development," Miss Gabriel soid and then developed that most fears originate in babyhood, by the wrong kind of stories. Ridicule causes timidity, Miss Gabriel believes, so that it is highly important that the parents do not laugh at children's mistakes.

They should also not forget to praise youthful accomplishments. This was the fourth of a series of interesting lectures on child problems by Miss Gabriel and is sponsored by the P. T. A. What's on at the Theatres BEACHAM Greta Garbo has 18 changes of costume for her role in "Susan Lenox, Her Fall and Rise," in which she is starred by MetroGoldwyn-Mayer.

In the picturization of the David Graham Phillips novel, which opens today at the Beacham theatre, Miss Garbo's wardrobe include carnival dancer's spangles, modern evening gowns, pajamas, ensembles, sport suits, farm girl's clothes, Follies tights, hiking outfit, gingham frocks, lounging robes, oilskin and boots and boating costumes. Robert Z. Leonard directed the new feature from Wanda Tuchock's adaptation of the famous story. The film setting encompasses a wide latitude of action, necessitating the wide variety of costumes worn by the star. Clark Gable plays opposite Garbo and the cast includes Jean Hersholt, John Miljan, Alan Hale, Hale Hamilton, Hilda Vaughn, Russell Simpson, Cecil Cunningham and Ian Keith.

THE STYLE CYCLE "Haven't seen you in that frock before." "No--my twenty-first birthday present." "Really! And now it's fashionable again?" -Tit-Bits. DIGNITY AND GLAMOR Flowing Lines Give Chic to Formal Mode I illustrated. The beauty of the costumes illustrated By JOAN above depends on the richness of the material and SAVOY NEA Service Writer As befits the spirit of the Second Empire when ladies wrapped themselves in dignity and glamor as well as ankle length skirts, the fashion in evening wraps this winter requires suave drapery that almost covers the shoe tops. The luxurious velvet evening wrap shown in the drawing at the left fits the figure like a sheath and keeps the style of its wearer's evening gown a secret. Wine velvet is used for this model from Jay Thorpe, The luxurious collar and cuffs are of white fox.

The evening wrap pictured at the right is of black velvet with ermine trimming. The broad, high fitting collar is an adaptation of Queen Anne's favorite neckline. Even in the opulent evening mode, the tendency of fashion to retreat from Empress Eugenie furbelows to the sobered simplicity of tailored lines is At first glance the new flowing style in evening wraps may suggest painful cleaning bills in conseof stormy nights; for no matter how soliciquence the doorman and how available the taxi or the tous and rain are sure to catch the bottom motor, snow of the wrap that comes to the ankles, Actually the menace need not be feared, Many of the finer yelvets will not spot after a light sprinklbed ing, and effects. the new sponsored velvet by Vionnet and Chanel can corduroys whose smart ribare pass from theatre lobby to motor unspotted, no matter how furious the rainstorm, This doesn't mean that you can trot out looking for a cruising taxi. That duty will still be the province of the chivalrous male; but you can count on protection from incidential rain and snow--which is a lot more luck than the Empress Eugenie ever had.

The Mode in Brief By MARGARET DERBY Notions and ideas, they are all one and the same thing. Did it ever occur to you that the new idea, which would be just the finishing touch to that winter frock, would probably be in the notions aisle of some store? Take buttons for instance, they haven't been as smart in years. Every kind imaginable may be used from cut steel to just plain pearl buttons. Then belts. Is there anything so destined to add chic to any frock as a belt, in types varying from severe kid to shiny metal links? Another item that you've not thought of in ages, and these new hats almost necessitates its chase.

A hair net, gossamer thin and invisible. There are innumerable fashionable items in little things like that, and people never think of them until someone puts the idea of notions into their heads. TODAY ONLY DOUBLE FEATURE PROGRAM BILL CODY IN Dugan of the Bad Lands '-CO-FEATUREED WYNN THE PERFECT FOOL By Arrangement with FLORENZ ZIEGFELD "FOLLOW THE LEADER" Matinee-10c-25c EveningRIALTO Glorifying Yourself By Alicia 'Hart Exercise is the answer to the problem of reducing weight. You should, of course, diet, but not too rigidly unless you have first placed yourself in the care of a reliable physician.

You may eat something of everything on the menu but only a small portion of each thing. Eat fruit instead of pastry for dessert and green vegetables instead of potatoes. There are several excellent exercises for reducing the abdomen and waistline, and if you do them conscientiously every day, the excess weight will disappear. Lie flat on your back on the floor with your arms stretched over your head. Now, without bending your knees or your elbows, raise yourself to a sitting position and then bend forward from the waistline until your hands touch your toes.

Repeat 10 times a day. A second exercise for reducing the waistline is to stand a little distant from a wall with your feet apart and your hands over your head. Bend backward until your hands touch the wall, further back until your forehead touches and then it won't be long before you can touch it with your nose. Do it a few times each day until you can bend backward 50 far that your head will actually touch the baseboard. As you lose weight, your waistline will become more supple.

For a double chin or any excess weight on the throat, lie on the floor on your back with your arms at your sides. Slowly raise your head (not shoulders) and bend your neck forward until your head is upright. Now relax and lower your head. Repeat 10 times The second exercise for a flabby chin and throat is to lie face down on a bed with your head hanging over the edge. Raise your head and look at the ceiling; force your 666 666 Salve for Baby's Cold in 80 minutes, checks a Cold the first day, and checks Malaria in three days.

LIQUID OR TABLETS head back until it touches your shoulders, relax and allow the head to droop forward over the edge of the bed. Nearly every woman worries about the excess weight on her hips and thighs. You should begin taking exercises before the weight becomes a permanent ture. Sit on your haunches as you did when you were child and walk around a room four or five times each day. Walking on your hands and feet, keeping the knees stiff is good for the abdomen as well as your hips.

Lie flat on the floor with feet together and arms at the sides. Count one, raising the right leg, crossing it over the left, pointing the right foot as far to the left as possible and stretching the leg until you feel the muscles tighten. Count two, and raise the left leg, pointing it over the right one as far as possible. Keep your held and shouiders flat on the floor 50 that your hips do the rolling as you point one leg across the other. NEXT: "First aids" for beauty.
